You’re engaged! Before you get married, there are many steps when it comes to planning the big day and the engagement session is one the best parts! You get to spend quality time with your fiancé(e) and document this fleeting and wonderful time of being engaged. After you’ve chosen your wedding photographer, one of the first steps to taking engagement pictures is choosing a location. There are a few different approaches you can take to help you decide!
Choose a location that is sentimental to the two of you.
This idea has endless possibilities! Maybe your family has a farm that you both love. Do you have a favorite local brewery where you drink beer together on Saturday nights? Great, get some drinks and take some pictures! Do you live near a park where you frequently walk your dog together? Did the proposal happen there? Where was the first date? If you are a sentimentalist at heart, this approach could be a great option.
Choose a location that fits your style. (Even if you’ve never been before).
What are your shared hobbies? Hiking? Cozy days in at home? Taking a walk downtown? Do you spend time at the lake? If you don’t have a specific spot that is sentimental to the two of you, combining your style/interests can help you decide on a rural or urban location.
Choose a location that is opposite to your wedding location/vibe.
Sometimes your wedding venue will allow you to do engagement pictures there as well which could be very sentimental or you can take the opportunity to mix up the scenery so you have some variety after you are Mr. & Mrs.
